In an effort to support as many families as possible, we offer a variety of FREE support groups each month. All groups are Drop In and no pre-registration is required.

Catherine O’Brien, LMFT hosts a new parent meet-up on the 2nd Monday of each month 10-11am.

You asked and we heard you! Owner, Kellie, leads a working mom support group every 2nd Saturday from 12-2pm. This group is for moms and babies from ages 0-2 who are back to work and want to discuss the challenges that come with working and caring for young babies.

Owner Kellie’s husband, Chris Edson, dad of 2 hosts a New Dad support group every 4th Wednesday 7-8:30pm.

We also now host the local ICAN Support Group, led by Rachelle Ahmad and Lyl Starr for moms who have experienced cesareans, are planning VBACs, are planning repeat cesareans, need to process cesareans. Basically, all things C-Sections - every 2nd Sunday from 12-2pm

We also offer a peer support group and member of the National Network of LGBTQ Family Groups in association with Family Equity Council dedicated to supporting expectant and new families in the LGBTQ community. This group is for parents who identify as LGBTQ who are expecting a child or have babies under the age of 1. Amy Moy, a fabulous queer doula, childbirth educator, mom of one and owner of River Bend Birth Services will be facilitating this group on the 2nd Sunday from 3-5pm.

Niki Martasian will host a special needs support group every 2nd Saturday from 2:30-4:30pm. This group is open to any parent or guardian of children, ages 0-3, with disabilities and/or special healthcare needs who want to come and discuss the joys, challenges, and triumphs of raising a little one with a little extra pizzazz. Niki is a mom of two and her second son has all of the pizzazz and has given her the heart to support other parents on this journey!

The Root is now hosting the Greater Sacramento Area Day Meetings for La Leche League. These meetings take place every 3rd Thursday from 10-11:30am. La Leche. Co-leaders are Jennifer Guiraud and Misty Dunn. League is an international, non-profit, non-sectarian organization dedicated to providing education, information, mother-to-mother support, and encouragement to women who want to breastfeed.
Accredited by La Leche League International, volunteer Leaders are experienced breastfeeding mothers who are familiar with research and current findings dealing with all aspects of nursing. We offer practical information and support to nursing mothers through telephone help, monthly meetings, and lending libraries of books on childbirth, breastfeeding, and related parenting topics. All women interested in breastfeeding are welcome to attend meetings or call Leaders for support.
All mothers and pregnant women as well as support persons are welcome and invited to attend.

Wombs in Waiting is a monthly support group for those who are on the journey to conception. This group is here to support you, no matter where you fall on the spectrum in your fertility journey. Trying to conceive? PCOS, IUI, IVF, surrogacy, miscarriage, secondary infertility, those with ANY and ALL struggles are welcome to attend. Every little layer of effort is all wrapped up by the same desire: to create, nurture, grow, birth and hold your child. This desire had many paths to the outcome, but it all comes from the heart. This group is led by Jen Cowell and Julie Brouillard Kwong. Jen is a doula and owner of Joyful Tribe She is also a mother of four, ranging in ages from 4-18. The span of ages of her kiddos represents years of infertility struggles and loss. Her hope in facilitating this group is to provide a safe space to share and processes the many emotions that are a part of the path to parenthood. Julie is an aspiring mother to be, having tried to conceive for over 5 years. She has taken her struggle to conceive and transformed her career to specialize in women's health pelvic floor PT while searching for answers beyond the standard medical system. She has found hope and joy after years of depression and isolation started her journey. Her hope is to help other women struggling find their joy again through fellowship and sisterhood.

Group will take place every 4th Thursday from 6-8pm at The Root.
